This gorgeous stone like Tiger's eye and Hawks eye(the blue version) is made from a mineral called Blue crocidolite asbestos and is consider to be toxic to humans in it's raw form. However once it has been cut, polished and made for jewelry it is no longer a threat and is actually quite beneficial. This is actually true of many shells and gemstones in our world. Hope I didn't scare you,lol
Pietersite is basically a naturally occuring mix of both tiger's eye and hawks eye and it can look like a layer like in the raw stone above or in a manner which is more mixed ad swirled together like in the pendant example. It is a part of the quartz family and comes in at a 7 on the MOHS scale. A silicon dioxide mineral, it is mainly found in South Africa and China. Helps one to be heard by others, by adding in finding the right words to communicate clearly. This stone reminds me of calmer days of daydreaming and just simply being. Blue lace agate is not a bold or brightly colored stone, but that is what gives it it's charm. Dawn Rosell Information sources: Book of stones and The Rock and Gem book from the Smithsonian. Ah the pearl. A true classic in jewelry for millennia, but what is a pearl exactly? A pearl is created by a mollusk and consists of the same mineral and material as the shell. It is a natural secretion that coats perhaps a piece of sand or some other foreign object trapped within the home of the mollusks shell and is to protect the animal. The coating is present on the inside of the shell as well. It is principally made of the mineral argonite and small amount of conchiolin. Together these minerals make Mother of Pearl. The color of a pearl depends on the creature creating it and it's surrounding. Colors range from white and yellow to soft pink, lavender, champagne, blue, green and black. Pearls come from all over the world and there are pearl farms where cultured pearls are made. Cultured means that humans have placed a tiny mother of pearl bead into the shell and allowed the process to continue naturally.
The pearl represents Cancer and Gemini astrological signs. The pearl is often seen in wedding jewelry as the symbol of purity and loyalty. Named "The shell of sincerity" bringing truth to situations. Signifies faith, charity, integrity and innocents. Helps to focus attention. The pearl has never lost it's place in the world of jewelry and is considered to be a classic. It can be dressed up or down and there is most likely one pair of simple pearl earrings in every woman's jewelry box. I think that is what I love best about the pearl, it is not reserved for one type of woman or one age group. It is clean, classic and yet can be over the top elegant, or even rock and roll. The pearl is truly versatile and ageless. I hope you enjoyed the pearl and I hope you have a peaceful week. Dawn Rosell Information sources: Smithsonian rock and gem book and Love is the earth by Melody once read a tale of Amazonite being named after the legend of the Amazon Warrior women and that it makes one feel confident and strong. I love this idea of course and I love this stone because it is such a pretty color. Some high quality specimens have a white flash within the structure giving it sparkle. Amazonite is a green-blue stone that has white and sometimes black variations in the structure. It is named after the Amazon River, but it can be found in Russia, and in the United States. It is a feldspar containing Potassium aluminum silicate. The structure is a plaid like structure with the crystals coming together at right angles. It is 6-6.5 on the hardness scale.
It represents the throat Chakra . A stone of truth, communication and harmony. Amazonite awakens compassion by stimulating the heart chakra. It helps to empower and brings harmony to us as well as between us and others. It helps us see our emotions without being overwhelmed or judgmental. Aids in focus, creates a space of being able to create what one truly wishes. I mean really, Amazonite is pretty awesome. To me it is the perfect representation of the warrior woman in us all. Creating all we dream and fighting with truth and compassion for ourselves and those around us. We are strong, resilient and beautiful. I hope you enjoyed today's mineral! Have a peaceful Day!
